The area is within the Loire Valley, famous for its light fruity wines. There are vineyards a few minutes' drive from the Gite - many have wine tastings and wine can be bought direct and at very reasonable prices (we can arrange a visit to a local vineyard). As the name suggests, there are many vallees to be found in the area where, over millenia, the rivers have cut their courses through the hard granite. This has created some wonderful scenery and views and many interesting walks are to be had around the valleys.
The farm is in the north of Deux Sevres, a very rural department in the Poitou-Charente region of western France. The summers are long and hot and the winters tend to have short sharp cold spells. As this is such a rural region, you won't be surprised to see farm vehicles on the road (great entertainment for younger children). This is part of the way of life here - but, as most French roads are good, straight, and have little traffic, you will soon be past them and getting to your destination.
From Spring onwards, you will find many local activites and fetes being held around the area. There are many other things for you to do if you like activity holidays, want somewhere to take the kids, or would just like a chill out and rest type holiday. We have given you some suggestions on other pages of the website. Apart from the theme parks, everything is within a 15 minute drive and most are within the immediate vicinity.
